Cooper Street Nocturne

One of my favorite streets to paint near downtown Monterey, this alleyway is where a lifelong friend of mine and his family live. Inspired by historical fellow Monterey painter, Charles Rollo Peters, this painting is a tonal depiction of the blanket of evening draped over a residential street, the lights of homes and the streetlamp peering out from the surrounding night. The subtle peacefulness and domestic mood, with a hint of mystery and unknown that comes with the night, was something I wanted to come through in the painting.
