My painting was inspired by nineteenth century artist George Inness’ painting of the same name. Inness painted his monumental work near the end of the civil war to embody the assured union victory and the hope of peace and prosperity to come after great national adversity. I’ve used my experience of a less demanding painting schedule, due to current global uncertainty, into a positive experience by sketching more from life and studying color by greatly simplifying my palette, using three colors and white. This painting, created in the studio from field sketches and photographs, depicting beehives, cows, flowing stream and watered fields illustrates my longing for peace and plenty.
