Catching Up to Mom

I took a couple of photos of this beautiful mare and her little one while on a plein air painting expedition near Chestertown, Maryland. This photo was always a "must paint sometime," and I finally got around to it in the last few weeks. Getting an accurate drawing took a while, and then had to get up my courage again to lay in paint on the horses. With the first few stokes on the mare, though, I was off and running with what I call "risky painting," because each stroke is a commitment and there's not much going back!
