Dunes at Dawn

The Outer Banks of North Carolina have always been a magical place for my family. Nursing our hot coffees to keep warm in the predawn chill, we would wait for the beach ponies who would eventually cross the dunes road at this point, as they did very early every morning. I've painted these scenes many times, both en plein air and from photos, and am always in awe of the beauty of the sun coming up over the dunes.
